How Crystallographic Orientation‐Induced Fibrinogen Conformation Affects Platelet Adhesion and Activation on TiO 2 (Adv. Healthcare Mater. 13/2023)

چکیده

Crystal Surfaces Crystallographic orientation, and therefore the arrangement coordination number of surface atoms, defines energy wettability, subsequently controlling cellular response to blood-contacting biomaterials. Depending on crystallographic orientation TiO2 (rutile) surfaces, fibrinogen adsorbs typically in a trinodular and/or globular conformation, determining platelet adhesion activation. Rutile may determine risk blood clotting. This work is highlighted article 2202508 by Klaus D. Jandt co-workers.

Platelet tyrosine kinases and fibrinogen receptor activation.

Platelet adhesion and aggregation during hemostasis and thrombosis are usually limited to sites where the integrity of the vessel wall is disrupted. The high concentration of platelet agonists within these sites represents a putative control mechanism for targeting platelet activation. Although much has been learned about the intracellular signaling systems controlling platelet activation, our ...

Preliminary Investigation of the Dissolution Behavior, Cytocompatibility, Effects of Fibrinogen Conformation and Platelet Adhesion for Radiopaque Embolic Particles

Experimental embolic particles based on a novel zinc-silicate glass system have been biologically evaluated for potential consideration in transcatheter arterial embolization procedures. In addition to controlling the cytotoxicity and haemocompatibility for such embolic particles, its glass structure may mediate specific responses via dissolution in the physiological environment. In a 120 h in-...

Fibulin-1 mediates platelet adhesion via a bridge of fibrinogen.

Fibulin-1 is a component of the extracellular matrix that surrounds vascular smooth muscle. This observation, along with the recent finding that fibulin-1 can bind fibrinogen (J Biol Chem 270:19458, 1995), prompted investigation into the potential role of fibulin-1 as a thrombogenic agent. In perfusion chamber assays, platelets in whole blood under flow conditions attached and spread on surface...

Influence of nanoporesize on platelet adhesion and activation.

In this study we have evaluated the influence of biomaterial nano-topography on platelet adhesion and activation. Nano-porous alumina membranes with pore diameters of 20 and 200 nm were incubated with whole blood and platelet rich plasma. Platelet number, adhesion and activation were determined by using a coulter hematology analyzer, scanning electron microscopy, immunocytochemical staining in ...
